Retreats

The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius

The Spiritual Exercises are a compilation of meditations, prayers, and contemplative practices developed by St. Ignatius Loyola to help people deepen their relationship with God. St. Ignatius intended the Exercises to be given in 30 days in solitude and silence, and meeting daily with a spiritual director. An alternative to the 30 Day Retreat is the Exercises in 30 weeks to accommodate retreatant’s daily life.  At McQuaid Jesuit the retreat begins in mid-September with the Mass to the Holy Spirit  and concludes mid-May at the Pentecost.

A potential retreatant possesses a deepening desire to draw closer to God, and is willing to allow his/her life to be formed by the Gospel of Jesus so to serve with Christ more intentionally in the work entrusted to her/him in our mission of education of young men.  The retreat requires five group meetings throughout the year, daily pray with either one of the Exercises or Scripture, and a weekly meeting with a spiritual director.

The retreatants for the 2017-2018 year are the Honorable Patricia Marks and Sr. Barbara Staropoli SSJ, both members of the Board of Trustees, Andrew Hoeperl, Theology Faculty and Jennifer Roxstrum, the McQuaid Jesuit Bookstore Manager.   Please keep our retreatants in your prayers as they journey closer to the Lord this year!

Authentic conversion occurs in the intersection of psychological development and spiritual maturation tending toward becoming the person God intended us to be from creation, we would reflect the glory of God.  This four week retreat will lead us through the four “seasons” of St. Ignatius’ life in order to comprehend more clearly the conversion process to which this liturgical season invites us.  Studying conversion through St. Ignatius’s life will help better understand what grace is inviting us to in terms of our psychological and spiritual growth and development.

Format  includes input from the director, suggested text for daily prayer for the coming week and faith sharing regarding the fruits of prayer.  It is important that retreatant commit to all four weeks of the retreat.
