On Friday, July 30, 2010, 35 young men will complete their five week summer Enrichment Program with a ceremony conducted at McQuaid Jesuit. The program is called HAP, or the Higher Achievement Program, and is run by McQuaid Jesuit as a service to the Rochester community in the hope that its young participants will become future leaders. The students in the program are not enrolled at McQuaid and most will not attend the all-male Catholic college prep school. This is the 43rd year McQuaid has run the program. The ceremony will take place in the McQuaid Jesuit Auditorium at 6:30 p.m.
The Higher Achievement Program is sponsored by McQuaid Jesuit and the New York Province of the Society of Jesus who provide more than half of the young men with full financial assistance for the program. All of the young men in the program will be entering the 8th grade this coming fall at local middle schools. Nine McQuaid faculty members and six student volunteers teach the students courses in Reading, English, Mathematics, History and a leadership mini-course. There are also activities, brain games, and athletic competition.
