Red Wings general manager Dan Mason today was named International League Executive of the Year. It’s the third time the McQuaid graduate has won the award, with the first two coming in 1996-97.
“It’s not about me. It’s about everyone in the organization,” said Mason, who is in Durham, N.C., for IL meetings and Tuesday night’s Triple-A championship game between the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Reno Aces.
Mason, 45, is in his 18th season as Red Wings GM and 23rd with the team. This past season, Frontier Field hosted 40 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees games (including two playoff games) and 72 Red Wings games. The Yankees were forced to play all of their games on the road due to major renovations to their ballpark in Moosic, Pa.
Mason was present for all but one of them, a Yankees day game in mid-July.
