David Comic Book Assignment

Psalm Memorization: Extra-credit

Review: Divided Kingdom & Foreign Domination

     David Comic Book Assignment

1.   In groups composed of three students, you are to create a comic book-style depiction of the story of David

2.   You must include material covered in the following chapters:

              1 Sam 16, 17, 18, 24-29 and 31; 2 Sam 11-16, 18; 1 Kings 1-2

              See below for the three sections: The Rise of David, Court History I, Court History II

              Each student in the group will be responsible for a different section.

3.   You should devote about 5 to 6 pages to each section, with from four to six panels per page.   This length is a suggestion,

not a requirement, but realize that you will be graded on your ability to depict the story with some depth and accuracy.

4.   This assignment will count as a major test grade (100 points).

5.   Grading:

              You will be graded on your ability to depict the story with accuracy and depth.   The quality of your work will also be taken into account.   The grade range by decade (i.e. 90’s, 80’s, 70’s, 60’s) will be determined by accurate rendering of the key elements of the story as listed on the on line Grade Sheets (below).

              The grade you earn within this range will be determined by the quality of your drawings and dialogue,your use of color, the overall quality of your book.   In other words, while the quality of your drawing will help your grade, you must meet content and clarity requirements first.

What I expect to see from each chapter:

              See Grade Sheets below.

The rise of David:

1 Samuel 16, 17, 18, 24-29, 31

2 Samuel 1-4, 5-6, 7

Psalm 8

1: O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

2: Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies,

that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

3: When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars,

which thou hast ordained;

4: What is man, that thou art mindful of him?

and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

5: For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels,

and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

6: Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands;

thou hast put all things under his feet:

7: All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

8: The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea,

and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

9: O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Psalm 23

1: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2: He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
    he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3: He restoreth my soul:
    he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
    for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5: Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
    thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6: Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
    and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Psalm 137

1: By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept,
    when we remembered Zion.
2: We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
3: For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song;
    and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of
    Zion.
4: How shall we sing the LORD's song in a strange land?
5: If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.

    if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
7: Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem;
