We invite you and your runners to be part of this year’s 43rd Annual
McQuaid Invitational, one of the largest scholastic meets in the
U.S.A.National Federation sanction has been requested for schools from New
York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New
Hampshire, Virginia, California, Georgia, Florida, W.Virginia, Massachusetts ,
Maryland and the District of Columbia; also from the Canadian Federation for
Ontario schools. The 2006 meet drew over 5000 runners from 215 schools in 5
states and Canada. This year we’re offering the same 24 races, with the same
time order. The details:
DATE: Saturday, September 29, at 9:00 A.M.
PLACE: A large scenic glen in Genesee Valley Park., on the
southern outskirts of Rochester, next to the route 390 Expressway. (Check
Directions on website)
COURSES: Varsity: 3.0 miles (wheeled), except Jr. High. Spikes may be used but are not recommended
except in muddy conditions. Great
for spectators! Mostly grass; moderately hilly.Runners find it deceptively
difficult. (Records Boys: 14:35; Girls 16:52.2) Jr. High course: A 1.52 mile
looping on the 3.0 course.
NO SPIKES for Jr. High. (Records: Boys: 7:40; Girls 8:30)
RACES: 7 Boys
Varsity (3 seeded, 4 unseeded)
6 Girls Varsity (3 seeded, 3 unseeded)
3 Boys Varsity “B” (our designation for “Jr. Varsity”)
2 Sophomore races (1 boys, 1 girls). For anyone in 10th grade, as well as for
7th-9th graders who have lost jr. high eligibility. Coaches: Don’t run a strong soph-dominated varsity in this
race. You will have no team competition.
6 Jr. High (Gr. 7-9), 3 each for Boys and Girls (Note restrictions on website.)
ORDER OF EVENTS: Small schools run early, then medium and large.

AWARDS: Over 2600,
all custom-made. Check Awards link.
ENTRY FEES: $30. per
varsity team, $20 per sub-varsity., $10. for individuals.
$125 SCHOOL MAXIMUM. LATE FEE
of $50 will be assessed and strictly enforced this year. We will be delighted
if no schools have to pay it. (Last year, more than a handful!)
DEADLINES: USA Schools - Postmarked by Mon. 9/17. NO
FAXES!
Canadian schools - FAX entry form by Wednesday, 9/19.
OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS: An updated
list of motels convenient
to the park will be on the website by August 1. All are within 15 minutes; some
only 5. Some excellent rates!
If you have never come to our meet, I think you’ll find it well worth
the trip. It has something for teams of all sizes and abilities. If you have a
conflict this year, plan to come on 9/27 in 2008. (our meet always falls on the 4th
Saturday after Labor Day)
