Religion in the NewsExtra Credit Opportunity
PurposeTo relate areas of coursework and general matters of faith, religion, morality and spirituality to current events and to other issues of importance in our area and in the world at large. The Religion in the News extra credit opportunity is open only to students currently in Mr. Clar's grade 8 Religious Studies classes.
General Instructions1. Give the name (with date) of the news publication from which you have extracted your article. 2. Give the Title of your selected article. 3. Provide a neatly typed and coherent summary of your chosen article. Your summary must be written in complete sentences and be at least (1) full paragraph in length. 4. Demonstrate in your summary the religious nature of the article you have chosen. 5. Neatly attach the summarized article to your summary. No credit will be given for submissions which do not contain the original article under consideration. (Photocopies or articles that are torn, ripped or in any way damaged will not be accepted for credit.)
Please Note1. Each student is allowed to submit up to (4) articles for extra credit in any given marking period. Each article that is accepted is worth (2) points. Thus, the individual student may accumulate up to (8) extra credit points in any one marking period. All points accumulated in this fashion will be added to that student's total pool of points (not his average!) for that particular marking period. 2. In case of students submitting the same article, the first student to submit the article in question will be given credit. Back to the old drawing boards for everyone else! 3. Only articles of a current nature (within the past 4 weeks) will be considered for credit. 4.The content of submitted articles is not limited to the Christian faith. Topics may be drawn from the areas of spirituality, morality, devotional practices, general religiosity and may bear upon any of the world's great faith traditions. 5. Articles submitted for extra credit must be from a credible news publication. Articles taken off the web ... other than from news services ... will not be considered for extra credit. Mr. Clar will (as usual!) have the final say as to the suitability and appropriateness of all submissions.
GOOD LUCK & GOOD HUNTING!!!
