Is the Magazine Drive mandatory?

The Magazine Drive is NOT mandatory. The Magazine Drive is the ONLY student driven fundraiser sponsored by the Development Office.

When does the Magazine Drive begin?

The Magazine Drive kicks off with an assembly during the first full week of school in September. The students in grades 7-9 will attend an assembly during flex on September 18 th where they will receive information and materials to participate in the Magazine Drive. The assembly for the students in grades 10 and 11 will take place on September 20 th. Materials for Seniors will be delivered to their homerooms.

Can Magazines be purchased Online?

Magazines can be purchased at www.QSP.com. anytime of the year. Choose the “Just Shopping” tab. Be sure to choose McQuaid Jesuit as the school to receive credit for the purchase. A student’s name should also be entered so that student can get credit for the sale. Purchasing Magazines online helps eliminated errors in the processing of magazines as it eliminates the middle men(women). Last year over $3,000 of our profit came from online sales.

Can students start selling magazines before school begins?

YES! Students may pick up forms in the Development Office Monday through Friday beginning August 27 th.

What if students need more materials?

Additional materials can be found in the vestibule outside the chapel. There will be a table set up under the Magazine Drive Showcase. Materials will also be available in the Advancement Office located at the end of the gymnasium hallway.

How many magazines do students have to sell?

We encourage all to participate and will award prizes based on participation. Selling one magazine constitutes participation. While no prize is given to the individual student, selling one magazine will help the student’s homeroom reach their goal of 100% participation.

Can music and books count as an order?

Yes, each book or CD is counted as one order.

Is every family expected to purchase magazine?

We encourage boys to ask their parents to renew magazines they already have in their homes but no one is expected to purchase anything. We highly encourage students to sell subscriptions to friends and neighbors. Doctors, dentists, barbers and beauticians are a great source of magazine sales.

When and where do students turn in magazine orders?

Magazine orders may be turned in to the homeroom teacher EVERY DAY.

To whom do students have checks made out?

All checks MUST be made payable to McQuaid Jesuit High School. Cash and money orders accepted.

What prizes are awarded for selling magazines?

Magazine prizes are awarded based on participation. (It is imperative that students print their name clearly on the order form in the spaces marked Seller’s Name.) The more magazines a student sells, the more prizes he will earn. Special prizes are rewarded for every Reader’s Digest and/or ESPN magazine sold.

Candy and CASH are awarded for all other subscriptions sold.

Every 3 magazine subscriptions = 2 candy picks

Every 6 magazine subscriptions = 1 game ticket

Sell 8 magazine subscriptions and turn them in NO LATER THAN October 16 th to receive Dress Down privileges.

Early Bird Special……Sell 6 magazine subscriptions and TURN THEM IN before October 5th to receive Dress Down privileges.

When is Dress Down?

Dress down occurs at the END of the magazine drive. The dates will be announced well in advance. ONLY those students who have fulfilled the requirements will be allowed to dress down. Students who dress down without permission will receive JUG. Students who receive the Dress Down privilege will be given an A.M.D.G. bracelet to wear. This bracelet MUST be worn at all times during the Dress Down period.

Where do students obtain game and candy tickets?

Game and candy tickets are awarded on Game Days (see dates below). Tickets are placed in an envelope with the student’s name on it. The Magazine Volunteer crew maintains the envelopes. Students may pick up their tickets in the cafeteria on game days. Tickets will not be available if there were problems with an order. (Orders with problems are returned to the student in their homeroom folder. When corrected forms are returned to the Magazine Drive prize tickets will be made available.) We suggest that tickets are only picked up when a student is ready to redeem them. We will NOT issue new tickets for those that are lost.

What magazines are available?

Each student will receive in their information packet a list of magazines available from QSP. A supplemental list will also be included. If a student is unsure if a magazine is available they can call the Advancement Office. Magazines are listed at www.QSP.com too. OPRAH magazine IS BACK!

Does McQuaid accept renewal coupons even if the price is lower than that listed in the catalog?

YES!!! Although McQuaid will still be charged full price by QSP, we will accept all renewal coupons as long as the terms are the same as listed in the QSP catalog. TERMS OF THE COUPONS MUST MATCH THE TERMS LISTED IN THE QSP BOOKLET! (Example: Coupon offers 12 months and booklet offers 12 months, McQuaid can honor coupon. Coupon offers 24 months and booklet offers 12 months; McQuaid cannot honor the coupon.) Coupons for free offers (like the t-shirt from ESPN etc.) or for buy one, get one free cannot be honored. Simply staple the renewal coupon to the order form and write the amount (found on the coupon) in the appropriate boxes. Remember, when using a coupon for your order, the profit to McQuaid Jesuit is reduced. We reserve the right to refuse any renewal coupon should the use of it result in a loss of money for McQuaid Jesuit.

Should tax be charged?

NO, we do not charge tax for magazine subscriptions.

What is the MagNet program?

The MagNet program is used to obtain magazine subscriptions from friends and relatives who live out-of-town. Simply fill out the postcards with the name and address of ADULT family and friends who live outside Monroe, Ontario and Wayne Counties and turn them in to the homeroom teacher. Names and addresses provided will NOT be shared with anyone other than QSP. Prizes are awarded based on the number of postcards filled out properly.

Text Box: 3-6 postcards = One Flashing Neon Glass and a Pepsi 7+ postcards= Two Flashing Neon Glasses and two bottles of Pepsi

What happens to the MagNet book after it is turned in?

The MagNet books are turned over to QSP. QSP will mail out the postcard, along with a small information packet offering magazine subscriptions. All magazines ordered through this program will be included in McQuaid’s sales total.

Why can’t the MagNet program accept local addresses?

We encourage students to get a magazine order in hand from those individuals who live near them for two reasons. First, the more orders a student turns in to McQuaid, the more candy and cash prizes he earns. Also, McQuaid has to pay the postage for all information sent with the postcards, which reduces our profit.

Why does the order form include a space for an email address?

Now customers can receive an email order confirmation from QSP when a Valid email address is provided on the order form. Email addresses are NOT shared with anyone, even the publishers.

When does delivery of magazines begin?

McQuaid sends orders forms to QSP twice a week during the sale. Orders are processed by QSP as soon as they are received. It takes 5-6 weeks from the date orders are processed until magazines are delivered. It is important that orders be turned in by the students on a timely basis so processing can begin right away. (Remember the early bird special.) DO NOT have your son hold on to his orders until the end of the sale. This slows the turn around time and customers have to wait longer for delivery.

What happens if magazines are not received?

The customer service number for QSP is 1-800-678-2673. Please call this number first and explain the problem. QSP can usually solve the problem within minutes and your magazines will begin arriving shortly after your call. If you are not satisfied with the answer you receive from QSP, please contact Lauren Rusnak at lrusnak@mcquaid.org or 585-256-6151.

What if I want to order my magazines online?

QSP has an online magazine website. Go to www.QSP.com and order your magazines directly. Be sure to indicate that you would like the profits to go to McQuaid Jesuit High School.

Ways to avoid delays in delivery of magazines:

  • PRINT CLEARLY on the order form.
  • If you are renewing a magazine, be sure to fill out the form using the exact mailing name and address that is listed on the magazine you are renewing (as seen on the address label of your magazine).
  • Include the exact amount for magazines as listed in the QSP catalog or on a renewal slip.
  • DO NOT order more magazines than is listed in the terms outlined in the QSP catalog. If a magazine price is for 12 magazines, you may NOT extend the subscription by doubling your payment.
  • Turn in magazine subscriptions right away. McQuaid sends orders to QSP two to three times per week. QSP begins processing the day they receive the orders from us. Waiting to turn in orders means your customers wait.
  • Check and re-check addition and be sure to turn in the appropriate amount of money to cover the cost of the subscriptions.
