- HAP is a five-week program of academics (English, Literature, Math), activities, sports, a trip to Letchworth Park
and opportunities to take trips to local landmarks. The program runs from June 27th to July 29th (8:45 to 1:50) with a
graduation ceremony on the last day. We realize that some students may miss days due to summer camps, other
commitments etc., but request that students miss no more than five days to successfully graduate.
- HAP is sports, both recreational and competitive. Tournaments take place in Basketball, Floor Hockey, Softball,
Soccer, and individual skills. Hap also consists of activities, including chess, radio news, tennis, brain games, and others.
- HAP consists of small classes (approx. 6 to 10 students per class) to provide individual attention and instruction. HAP is
quality instruction, provided by full-time McQuaid teachers and other qualified instructors. Last year, four of the
seven HAP instructors were themselves graduates of the HAP program and McQuaid. More than half of the HAP
teachers had taught for seven or more summers in the program.
- HAP is an optional follow-up program in the fall, offering four Saturday sessions of preparation for Catholic school
entrance exams.

How is a student selected for HAP?
Young men are nominated to the program by their Principal, Counselor, or a teacher.
How much does the program cost?
The cost depends on the financial need of each family. Most students who apply receive full assistance
( paying $25 total cost for the program)or half-assistance ($250 total cost for the program.) McQuaid and
the New York Jesuit Province are committed to providing financial aid for qualified students to defray the
$500 per-pupil expense. We encourage all interested students to apply!
McQuaid runs the Higher Achievement Program as a service to the Rochester community in hope
that its young participants will become future leaders. For more information, call Mr. Andy Cavacos,
the Program Director, at 256-6116, or e-mail acavacos@mcquaid.org. |
